Ahead of the release of his upcoming project N3URAL ORD3R on June 8, Los Angeles-based artist and producer CJ Stowklyn opens up about the creative vision behind the album, the influence of internet culture on his sound, and how he blends futuristic production with raw emotion.
Known for experimenting across hyperpop, EDM, rap, and electronic music, CJ Stowklyn has continued to build a distinct artistic world that feels cinematic, chaotic, and immersive. In this interview, he speaks on vulnerability, technology, ambition, and the deeper meaning behind what he describes as “digital emotion.
Q: Tell us a little about your background and how you first got into music?
A: I’m CJ Stowklyn, also known as Siege!, an independent artist, producer, songwriter, and creative based in Los Angeles. I originally grew up in Arizona, and music became an outlet for me really early on. I started experimenting with sounds, recording ideas, and teaching myself production because I wanted to create worlds people could escape into. Over time, it evolved from a passion into my entire lifestyle and purpose.
Q: Growing up, what experiences shaped your sound and creative mindset the most?
A: Being online at a young age definitely shaped me creatively. I grew up during the rise of internet culture, underground music communities, gaming, fashion, and experimental artists who weren’t afraid to break rules. Moving from Arizona to LA also changed my perspective a lot. I’ve always been inspired by emotion, technology, isolation, ambition, and the feeling of wanting to create something futuristic but still human.
Q: At what point did you realize you wanted to seriously pursue music as a career?
A: Once I saw people genuinely connecting with my music emotionally, I knew this wasn’t just a hobby. Touring also changed everything for me. Performing across different cities and even internationally made me realize the impact music can have on people in real time. That’s when I fully committed to building a career and legacy around it.
Q: What inspired the sound and concept behind N3URAL ORD3R?
A: N3URAL ORD3R came from the idea of human emotion evolving alongside technology. I wanted the project to feel futuristic, emotional, chaotic, cinematic, and immersive all at once. Sonically, I pulled inspiration from hyperpop, EDM, rap, glitch aesthetics, and experimental electronic music, but I still wanted it to feel personal and authentic.
Q: The album explores “digital emotion” — what does that mean to you personally?
A: To me, digital emotion is the way people experience real feelings through screens, music, technology, social media, and online identities now. We live in a world where people can feel deeply connected while also feeling isolated at the same time. I wanted the album to reflect that contrast between humanity and artificial environments.
Q: How would you describe N3URAL ORD3R in three words?
A: Futuristic. Emotional. Chaotic.
Q: What was the creative process like while making this project?
A: Very experimental and immersive. I spent a lot of time layering vocal effects, distortion, ambient elements, and glitch sounds to create a world instead of just individual songs. I wanted every track to feel like part of the same universe.
Q: You blend hyperpop, EDM, and rap — how did you develop that sound?
A: I never liked feeling boxed into one genre. I grew up listening to everything from rap to electronic music to alternative artists, so naturally my sound became fluid. Instead of asking “what genre is this?” I focus more on emotion and energy. If a sound helps communicate the feeling correctly, I use it.
Q: What inspired the futuristic and glitch-heavy aesthetic of the album?
A: I’ve always been inspired by cyberpunk visuals, technology, internet culture, gaming aesthetics, and dystopian concepts. I wanted the album to feel almost like a corrupted digital dream — beautiful but unstable at the same time. The glitches represent imperfections in both technology and human emotion.
Q: Which song on the album connects to you the most personally, and why?
A: There are a few deeply personal records on the project, but the ones that connect with me most are the tracks where I allowed myself to be vulnerable instead of just experimental. Those songs capture moments of pressure, ambition, loneliness, and growth that I was genuinely experiencing while creating the album.
Q: Which track do you think fans will connect with the most?
A: I think fans will connect most with the songs that balance energy and emotion together. The more melodic records tend to hit people emotionally, while the harder glitch-heavy tracks create an experience live. I wanted different listeners to find different entry points into the project.
Q: You’ve released over 100 songs already. How has your sound evolved over time?
A: My earlier music was more raw and exploratory, but over time I became much more intentional with world-building, production, and storytelling. I’ve learned how to combine experimentation with structure while still keeping the emotion authentic. Every project reflects a different phase of my growth creatively and personally.
Q: What challenges have you faced as an independent artist?
A: One of the biggest challenges is balancing creativity with the business side of everything. As an independent artist, you have to wear multiple hats at once — marketing, visuals, branding, networking, strategy, and music creation. It takes resilience, consistency, and belief in your vision, especially when you’re building everything from the ground up.
Q: Are there visuals or music videos planned for N3URAL ORD3R?
A: Definitely. The visual side of this project is extremely important to me because the album was designed to feel cinematic and immersive. I want the visuals to expand the universe of the project and match the futuristic, emotional energy of the music.
Q: What’s next for CJ Stowklyn after this release?
A: I’m focused on scaling everything to a bigger level — more visuals, bigger collaborations, live performances, fashion, and expanding the overall world around the music. I want to continue pushing boundaries creatively while building something timeless that people remember years from now.
