Mila Nabours talks about the Music Industry

Mila, let us get to know you. Is there any story behind you going into music?

My parents are classical musicians, and I’ve always loved to sing, but never had the time to start getting into it. During the beginning of Covid though, I had a lot more free time and got introduced to Andrew Lane, a music producer who I’ve actually been working with ever since. He started showing me what the process of creating music is like, and I began writing and recording music. I’ve loved my journey so far and so happy that I get to pursue music!

What does it feel like being a young female musician in california?

California is such a great place to make connections and find opportunities, however it can be very cut throat. I’ve been lucky enough to find a support system that keeps me motivated and enjoy making the most out of everything I do. I genuinely love California, it’s always been my home, and I’m happy to have grown up here. 

Mila, how did it feel recording LET LOOSE alongside Sage Sam.

It’s been such an honor to work with someone as talented as Sage, and our process writing and recording the song was fulfilling every step of the way. I loved getting to watch him produce the technical side of things, while we collaborated on the artistic part of it. 

What do you hope people feel when they listen to your music?

I hope people feel the genuine emotion and passion I put into my songs, as well as connect to the messages portrayed through my lyrics. I intend for my songs to be up for interpretation to everyone’s unique experiences, while maintaining a specific theme. I like my songs to feel good and hopefully put people in a good mood. 

Out of all your songs, which connects to you the most?

Although all my songs are personal to me, my song “Memory,” has the most meaningful significance and vulnerability. This song for me specifically is dedicated to two of my grandparents with Alzheimer’s, although the song can be a tribute to anyone who may be losing someone. This song really portrays my voice in a more raw way, and it has a much more solemn tone than any of my other songs. I’ll always love and connect to this song for the rest of my life. 

Mila, how does it feel being in the music industry. Are they any struggles that come with it?

It feels really special and important to me. Music is something I’m very passionate about, so regardless of what career benefits I get from it, I’m just happy to be doing what I love. There are absolutely struggles that come with it, as it is a very competitive industry. I get past these hurdles by remembering the reason why I’m pursuing it, and focusing more on the artistic side of things rather than the business side. 

If you didn't go into the music industry, what do you see yourself doing.

I would see myself doing something else art related, most likely photography or videography. I still do want to pursue these crafts in the future, not necessarily full time, but at least as a hobby that I can enjoy. I’ve also always loved video editing, and it’s something I plan to continue learning throughout my future. All of these skills go hand and hand, so maybe one day I can find a way to incorporate them all cohesively into my life.
